Roth IRA’s can be an important part of your retirement savings plan. Though no tax deduction is available for contributions to a Roth IRA, the investment growth is tax free. Unlike traditional IRA’s, qualified distributions made after age 59 are completely tax-free, including all investment earnings. This could result in a significant tax savings in future years. Wow! That is the word I would use to describe the new FareStart Restaurant at Seventh Avenue and Virginia Street in Seattle, Washington. Not solely because of the amazing building renovation resulting from a three-year fundraising campaign, but because every penny spent prepares homeless and disadvantaged men and women for jobs in the foodservice industry. If you’ve purchased, built or substantially remodeled your restaurant within the last few years, you’ve probably heard the term “Cost Segregation”. If you haven’t, you may be paying your taxes earlier than necessary. If you have heard of it, you most likely know that the reason to have a cost segregation study performed on your building is to increase cash flow by accelerating tax depreciation deductions into the earlier years of the life of the building, and thus reduce tax payments during those years. As we transition from 2006 to 2007, we look back on a year that was filled with the introduction of new programs and technology. I guess one could say, 2006 proved to be an exciting year of change for Clothier & Head. Our commitment to developing our people, serving our clients, and leading our firm was met by several important firm wide initiatives. From our conversion to paperless to our focus on recruiting to our re-branding efforts (plus many more), it was definitely a busy and exciting year.

By January 1, 2007, Clothier & Head will officially be a paperless office. The decision to “go paperless” was made for several reasons, the primary one being that, thanks to the complicated document management rules dictated by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, electronic document management has now become the standard for most mid- to large sized accounting firms. While Clothier & Head is only minimally affected by Sarbanes-Oxley, going paperless still makes sense for a number of reasons.
